Karachi- on Saturday 29th January 2011, Department of MASS COMMUNICATION of jinnah university for women organized a lecture on "CITIZEN JOURNALISM". The main guest was Owais Mangalwala who is the producer and anchor of Dawn news channel's show "Citizen Journalism".he joined dawn news in 2007. at that time he was the producer and documentary film maker of dawn.
He started his lecture with common example of daily life and compare it with the citizen journalism. He said that journalism is a powerful but manipulated. Journalist should use the tools of journalism in order to communicate with each other. Majority people like journalism and reporting so those people who does not find the place in newspaper or any TV channel so they can share their opinion in blog
He described the four types of journalism
- Sharing of experiences
- Sharing of opinion
- Sharing of discovery
- Sharing of expertise
He also describe the following terms for Journalist that he must use these terms when he or she making report on any topic
· When you write any report you must aware about its basis.
- Report on common events.
- Expresive in your own terms.
- Don’t ever think that your topic is boring.
- Write your report in limited way.
- Accuracy in your report
- Use good and relevant words
- Follow code of conduct
- Avoid plagiarism
- Read more and more news reporting
- Find the mantels (contact with those people who are experienced reporter)
- Keep your eyes open
He describe three step process for journalist
“pehlay kam, phir naam, phir daam”
In the end he said that citizen journalist need platform and our new program “citizen jounalism” is best platform for them.
Miss Hummaira,who are the senior teacher of Mass Com department also addressed with the audience and thanked to Owias Mangalwala and appreciated the dawn news channel for their show and also appreciated the students.
